Excuse me for using the B-word - biodiversity, that is.  Recognising that a lengthy, technical-sounding word like this can be a bit of a turn-off, we tend to use the expression wealth of wildlife instead when promoting the work of the Cornwall Biodiversity Initiative.

For those who don't know a BAP from a bread roll, the Cornwall Biodiversity Initiative is the large partnership of organisations and individuals responsible for preparing and implementing this county's Biodiversity Action Plans (BAPs) in response to the Rio Earth Summit of 1992.

The BAPs are prioritised, detailed, targeted plans which direct everything we do for conservation.  They involve, and have been agreed upon by, all of the familiar environmental organisations (and some less familiar) and many individual specialists, as well as the industries whose activities have a bearing on the well-being of our natural resource.  Partnership on such an unprecedented level has been a key to the Initiative's effectiveness.

We hope the examples cited in Wild Cornwall will give some flavour and understanding of what Cornwall's Biodiversity Action Plans are all about, as well as ideas of how you can contribute to realising their goals.  Of course, as a member of the Cornwall Wildlife Trust you have already been partly responsible for the success of the Initiative to date.
