Seaquest for Kids

More news from a project inspiring both children and volunteers across Cornwall.

The Cornwall Wildlife Trust welcomes a new volunteer, Steve Summers to help deliver our marine education activity sessions in schools. Formerly in the Royal Navy, he has had an interest in the marine environment for many years. He will be working with our other Seaquest for Kids volunteer Alison Forward and they will both continue to inspire hundreds of Cornwall's school children about our marine environment. We wish them both lots of luck and look forward to hearing how they are getting on.

The Seaquest for Kids sessions teach children about Cornwall's sea creatures and the problems they face. One example is the food web game in which the children become an animal or plant and form chains which link to others nearby. A problem such as an oil spill occurs, which removes a particular species, and anyone affected by the problem has to sit down. These activities have been developed to deliver important messages in inspiring ways, and are relevant to the National Curriculum.

Seaquest for Kids is looking for more volunteers to work with Steve and Alison to help deliver these marine activity sessions in schools across Cornwall. If you are interested and can commit some time during the week or some evenings during the summer months Steve and Alison would be glad to hear from you. They can be contacted on Mondays and Fridays on (01872) 240777 ext. 202.

The Cornwall Wildlife Trust also needs more volunteers to help run our kids' Fox Club events across Cornwall. If you have enthusiasm, spare time at weekends or in the school holidays and enjoy working with kids then maybe you can help. Contact Tricia Nicholson on (01872) 240777 ext. 200. !
