Thanks to you

We never cease to be grateful to all who have given moral, practical or financial support to the Trust throughout its forty-year history. In the following two pages we give mentions to just a few of the people who have helped and hope you will be inspired - as we are - by their example.

Churchtown Farm
We are lucky to have been given the opportunity to develop our first community nature reserve, at Saltash, through a long-term lease of Churchtown Farm from the Antony Estate. Bordered by the estuaries of the Lynher and the Tarnar in an area of outstanding landscape value, the project offers a great opportunity for local people

to enjoy open nature at first hand. A grant from the Pennon Environmental Fund, supported by Caradon District Council, has enabled us to appoint a Project Development Officer to take the project forward.
Rachel Rayers, pictured above, said: "This presents a wonderful opportunity for a wide range of recreational and educational

activities for local people. My aim will be to involve as many local residents and community organisations as possible from Saltash and its surrounding areas to address their needs, whilst sympathetically managing the reserve to improve its wildlife value." If you are interested in getting involved, call Rachel on 07866 430086.

Every penny counts
Our twinning partners at NABU Lower Saxony continue to find different ways of helping the Trust. In January they sent us a collection of assorted British coins. The valid currency amounted to £60. The old coins (some from the 1800s but none of them rare, sadly) raised a further £40.

Mary Katharine
Hawkins OBE

Mary passed away on Thursday 17th January 2002, aged 90 years. Such was her modesty that many were unaware of the great achievements in Mary's life. She was awarded the MBE, OBE, Star of Jordan medal and Save the Children medal in recognition of her lifetime of life-saving work caring for children in the world's refugee camps.

Throughout her retirement in Cornwall Mary supported the work of the Trust, both as a member and as a committed

volunteer. She worked in all but one of our Penzance shops and was always there to help us in our many moves! All of those who had the pleasure of working with her will miss her greatly.
