Editorial

By popular demand, the smaller, glossier format for Wild Cornwall has made a comeback. Many of you tell us you have found the newspaper version harder to preserve for future reference. We do hope you will read your new magazine before you file it though!
Rest assured that this is not diverting funds from the Trust's conservation projects. The glossy format is now just as cheap as the newspaper and with the introduction of some appropriate advertising we have also covered the cost of a lot of extra colour. We are still, of course, using environmentally friendly paper.
The theme of this issue started out as Children and Wildlife but we were later overwhelmed by a tide of marine-related contributions. That's hardly surprising in a county with such a strong maritime influence inspiring its people. We thank you all for supporting our increasing efforts on behalf of this essential element of wild Cornwall.
We must not forget to involve the children in this work. If we encourage their enthusiastic approach towards caring for the environment, our wildlife will have a bright future. We should teach them well but at the same time be open to what their positive attitude has to teach us about conservation.

PS Our sympathies go out to the farmers and to all others affected by the foot-and-mouth outbreak. We ourselves have been hit badly by the restrictions, which have set back much of our work. We look forward to working with you - our members and supporters - and with the whole community to rebuild when the crisis is over.
