Happy anniversary to us
We're approaching a major anniversary - a time to celebrate membership of the Trust and to draw many more people into its work. Thank you for being part of it to date and we look forward to sharing the special year ahead with you.
Anniversary ideas

The Cornwall Wildlife Trust was formed back in 1962 (although it was called the Cornwall Naturalists' Trust then) so in May this year we will start celebrating our 40th anniversary. We want to use this opportunity to raise the profile of the Trust and our work throughout Cornwall, and to encourage as many people as possible to further our aims by joining the Trust or supporting us through voluntary work, donations or legacies. If you have any ideas for celebrating our 40th year, or would like to help with putting on the programme of events, please contact me directly or talk to your local group committee.

Close encounters with bats were among the many enlightening experiences on offer at the Trust's second Annual Members' Day. We look forward to many more.

Annual Members’ Day 2001

November 10th saw us back again at the Royal Cornwall Showground - after our successful Royal Cornwall Show - for Members' Day, with support from the County Environmental Trust. There was an enthusiastic reception for every workshop and presentation, and it is difficult to pick out the highlights.

The session on sustainable gardening for wildlife from Lynn Carter of Carrick District Council was said to be inspirational, and it was fascinating to learn about the creation and development of the Eden Project from its Senior Scientist. Workshops with Newquay Zoo's Hedgehog Hospital, Mid-Cornwall Bat Rescue Centre and Kate Stokes (on mammal detection) always prove popular, and the Christmas displays coming out of the Green Christmas workshops, with Riverside Flowers, Trevarno's Dawn Boyd and Scrapstore, were stunning.

The day was capped with absolutely gripping presentations from Nick Tregenza and Colin Speedie on their latest research work on the behaviour of dolphins, porpoises and basking sharks off the Cornish coast, and the threats to their future, supported by stunning photography.

Membership rates

As flagged up in your last magazine, the basic membership subscription will increase in the next financial year to £18 per annum for ordinary membership (£13 concessionary rate), the first increase for several years. This increase only applies to the minimum membership rates, so if you are one of the many who choose to support us at levels higher than the basic rate these increases will not affect you. We also hope to be offering a new family rate, incorporating adult and junior membership fees.
