An
iconic part of Cornwall's history, the King Harry Ferry connects
St Mawes and the Roseland Peninsula with Feock, Truro and Falmouth
by avoiding the alternative 27 mile trip through Truro and Tresillian.
The
King Harry Ferry Company was established in 1888 although there
has been a ferry in operation for more than 500 years. The ferry
bridge crosses the River Fal at King Harry's Reach, named after
King Henry VI, which forms part of the Pilgrim's Way to St.Michael's
Mount.
One
of only five chain ferries in England, the new ferry can now take
up to 34 cars per trip. It departs every 20 minutes from each
side of the river, seven days a week, providing a key transport
link for both visitors and locals.
Take
a scenic journey from Roseland to the Cathedral City of Truro
or to the beautiful town and beaches in Falmouth via the King
Harry Ferry, avoiding miles of congested roads. From the Truro
side travel over to the Roseland Peninsula, An Area of Outstanding
Natural Beauty, and discover its unique "away from it all" atmosphere
with an abundance of stunning coastal walks and unspoilt golden
beaches. With its glass side and chain viewing windows, passengers
can enjoy the ferry's slow, scenic river crossing over one of
Cornwall's deepest and most beautiful rivers, the River Fal.
