Welcome to Tintagel Castle
Tintagel Castle, Castle Road, Tintagel, Cornwall, PL34 0HE
Set high on the rugged North Cornwall coast, visitors can enjoy dramatic sea views from the castle ruins on the headland and island. Steeped in myths and mystery, this is a spectacular place which has inspired artists and writers throughout history who have associated it with the legend of King Arthur and the story of Tristan and Isolde (Yseult).
Climb the steps cut into the cliffside and over the bridge which joins the mainland to the island and you enter a courtyard through a gate. There you will see the remains of the Great Hall, built by Richard, Earl of Cornwall. Continue past the Dark Age remains and you have over 18 acres to explore on the island with a garden, chapel, tunnel and well.
With a history stretching as far back as the Romans, Tintagel Castle is one of the most iconic visitor attractions in the south west. History is brought to life for families through fantastic events throughout the year and during winter, this is an ideal spot for a coastal walk with your dog.
When you have explored the site, relax with a traditional cream tea, fresh crab sandwich or locally caught fish and chips. The cakes and scones are home-made and children will love the special lunch packs with a bucket and spade.
