Out and About
Porthtowan & Surrounding Area
Porthtowan has a Blue Flag beach and is one of the UK’s top surfing beaches consisting of wide soft white sands and dunes. Its name comes from the Cornish words ‘porth’ and ‘tewynn’ which mean Cove of Sand Dunes. This is a beautiful part of Cornwall, with picturesque cliff walks starting from the beach along the coast path.

“What a great find. Lovely, comfortable accommodation. Great for kids as off the main road and quiet! Nice cream tea put on for us when we got there. Brilliant, will book again next year.” Carolyn I, Somerset

“The Old Piggery is a beautiful place to stay and we were very touched by the full Cornish cream tea that awaited our arrival and the fresh flowers around the house were a lovely touch. Everything was scrupulously clean and the kitchen was fully equipped for a week away from home. The Old Piggery is a warm, inviting family home, a perfect place to return to after a day on the beach. It is very near to the village and incredible beach of Porthtowan but far enough out so that you would not be disturbed by revelling holidaymakers.” Liz G, London

“A beautiful cottage tastefully decorated with extra touches and maintained at a high standard. The location is great and a short drive to the beach.” Daleen H, London
