Taking your bike

Taking your bike on trains in the South West regional services is free (subject to availability of space) on those tracks marked on the above map in red.
Tracks marked in orange indicate those tracks which require you to book in advance (minimum 2 hours before your journey) A reservation fee is payable.  If you do not book in advance, or board a reservable train without a reservation you will have to pay a higher reservation fee.

Making a reservation
Reservations can be made at any main railway station or any rail appointed travel agent. It is recommended that you make your reservation a minimum of 24 hours in advance. It is possible to make a reservation minutes before your train departs but this is subject to existing reservations and space on the train.

You can make a reservation by telephone (if the ticket value is greater than £10) by telephoning 0345 125 625, 0800-2000 daily. Allow 5 days for delivery of tickets..

Unaccompanied cycles
Unaccompanied cycles can be sent by Red Star parcels service: telephone 0345 400 500 for further details.

Folding Cycles
Folding Cycles completely folded down or packed into a case are carried free on all journeys.  

Tandems etc 
Tandems, tricycles, 'Rann' trailers, motorised cycles & scooters are not carried on any service.

ORGANISATIONS

The National Cycle Network The National Cycle Network is a visionary Millenium project to revolutionise cycling in the UK, by creating 65,000 miles of safe, high quality and signposted routes for cyclists by the year 2005.
The Great Western region covers some of the best of these routes including the beautiful "West Country Way", which links up with many of Great Western and South Wales & West stations.
Other popular cycle routes whick link to train stations in the Great Western region include the Taff Trail from Cardiff and the Bristol and Bath path.

 

Sustrans A registered Charity, Sustrans stands for Sustainable Transport.  Many of their routes can be accessed via the rail network and the Great Western is keen to promote the benefits of this integrated and environmentally friendly travel.
