Pentewan Valley Cycle Trail Pentewan to London Apprentice. The trail is approximately 4 km in length making a round trip of 8km ( 5miles) The trail starts at the Cycle Hire shop on the outskirts of Pentewan village. Then following the course of the White River, (The local name for the St. Austell river which reflects the days when China Clay was discharged into the river) it winds along the valley floor with a very moderate uphill gradient. There is a short ride through woodland owned by The Woodland Trust before returning to the river. The finaly section is on the bed of an old narrow guage mineral railway and this brings you to London Apprentice. Plans are a foot to extend the trail northwards to St. Austell and onwards. The trail is being extended to link the valley with the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Pentewan Sands beach provides an opportunity to enjoy the seaside combined with a pleasant cycle ride.
