Sunnyside is a 150 year old Cornish cottage, tucked away between the two creeks that meet to form the Helford River. It is in the centre of the village of Gweek, but you would never know it, as it occupies such a secluded position, sheltered from the road by a thick hedge and facing south, overlooking woods and river and its own foreshore and saltings. It`s an ideal holiday base as there is no need to go anywhere by car, with the woods and river to play on, in and around, a beautiful garden to relax in and an interesting village to explore. If you do want to go further afield there are all sorts of things to do and places to go a short drive away.
The House
Sunnyside is a family home, simply decorated and furnished, able to accommodate 7 with divan space for another. Upstairs the three bedrooms comprise two large doubles, both with an additional single bed, and a single. The two front bedrooms look south over the river, while the back one looks down into the little back herb garden.

On the ground floor, to the left of the entrance hall, there is a lounge-cum-study with the TV, dvd player, bookshelves and comfortable seating. To the right of the hall are the kitchen and dining room, defined by a pine counter, separating the areas without cutting them off from each other. There is an open fire in the dining/living space, in addition to electric storage heaters in all the downstairs rooms. An immersion heater in the bathroom upstairs ensures that there is plenty of hot water. Cooking is done on the gas hob, in the fan-assisted electric oven or the microwave.
The scullery-cum-pantry, housing the washing machine and the fridge/freezer as well as general, cool storage, is accessed through a low archway under the stairs at the back of the house.

The garden: In front of the house is a hedged cottage garden, alive with garden birds and with views of the reedbanks, the river and Gweek Woods beyond. Situated at the very top of the Helford River estuary, Sunnyside has its own foreshore and saltings abundant with bird life - swans, herons, white egrets, kingfishers, curlew, cormorants, seagulls, a variety of ducks, ..... a paradise for birdwatchers. Dogs are welcome as long as they respect the resident wildlife, especially the swans that nest nearby. The river is tidal, with enough water for nautical activities for about 3 hours each side of high tide.

Location
The village of Gweek has been the meeting point of land and sea commerce for over two and a half thousand years. Coastal trade of all descriptions took place here - the P honecians came here to trade for tin and copper; it was the mediaeval port for nearby Helston when the Cober river ceased to be navigable, and as recently as the mid seventies the old coalyard was supplied by ship. The Helford River is one of the most beautiful in the country, with fascinating creeks to be explored by water or by land. Whether you are a Daphne Du Maurier fan in search of Frenchman`s Creek or a Swallows and Amazons or Wind in the Willows type who just enjoys the river and its attendant activities, there is something here to delight you.
The cottage is a short walk - about 100 yards - from the "commercial" end of Gweek where you find the Post Office and well stocked Spar shop for all your self catering needs and the local pub if you fancy socialising or eating out. For interest, there is the well-known Seal Sanctuary and the Gweek Quay Boatyard, which specialises in historic wooden boat restoration, and for entertainment, across the road from the village green is the local silver band house where the band plays regularly throughout the season. The market town of Helston, famous for its Flora Day at the beginning of May, is 2 miles away and other nearby attractions include the theme park, Flambards, the Lizard peninsula, with its ancient sites and wonderful walks and beaches, and several of the county`s best known public gardens.
