Press Release: Porfell picks up a platinum provider award
Porfell Wild Park & Sanctuary has been awarded the Platinum Provider
Award by Cornwall Education Business Partnership for the work experience
scheme they offer young people.
In order for an employer to be awarded the Platinum Provider Certificate
their work experience has to have a number of aims and objectives including:
A clear rationale for providing placements which will enable the students
to:
Undertake a range of tasks as would an employee
Develop and show a good understanding of the job and how it relates
to the work of the company
Prepare for working life by learning to meet the appropriate standards
of company behaviour
Appreciate the importance of safe working procedures
In addition the Company must have a planned approach to work placements
by providing students with job descriptions, an outline programme and
an assessment of health and safety risks to the student. At the end of
the placement there has to be a debriefing and evaluation.
John Palmer, owner of Porfell said “We are delighted to have achieved
this award. We have been giving work placements to local students for
many years. These schemes give young people a chance to see what real
working life is like and they provide a valuable contribution to our daily
workload.
Tom Hickie from the Cornwall Education Business Partnership explained
“The Platinum Provider Scheme has been designed to encourage employers
to develop their own Work Experience Scheme so that it provides a quality
experience for the students concerned. This award is for those employers
who provide Work Experience Placements and have met the quality standards
required”
