Baragwainaith - St Ives - Sleeps 4

Nestling in green Cornish meadows Baragwainaith is a beautifully restored artisan’s cottage with sweeping sea views from both the main sitting room and the master bedroom.

The cottage is on the edge of the manor of Trowan, situated in a truly rural location but being less than two or three minutes drive from the very centre of St Ives and has just been completely restored by award winning developers Mango Homes.

The refurbishment has been carried out to a very high standard and provides an eclectic range of traditional and contemporary styles creating a warm mix of natural stone surfaces; log fires; hand painted kitchen; natural timber floors; beamed ceilings etc.

Baragwainaith also has one of the few genuine smugglers tunnels remaining in Cornwall and the first section of this is clearly visible through a glass panel in the kitchen floor!

The quality of furnishings and fittings is very high with wireless internet; LCD television; free-view box; full washing and drying facilities and all the kitchen and cooking implements you could possibly require (including the most important of all – a heavy duty corkscrew!)

The cottage forms part of the historic hamlet of Trowan and offers private parking, an enclosed walled garden which is fully secure for young children and beautiful countryside walks through the adjacent

About Trowan
Views from the cottages

Trowan Farm is at the centre of what remains of the ancient Manor of Trowan – a small hamlet that predates St Ives by many hundred of years and which in its heyday of the mid eighteen hundreds provided a home for upwards of one hundred people.

By the end of the last century the manor had shrunk to almost nothing – the few remaining cottages having been assimilated into a single farm run from the “Hain House”, the main house on the site which was built by the famous St Ives Shipping firm in 1909 and which still dominates the site today.

Two years ago the entire site was purchased by Mango Homes, a development company that have won numerous awards for the quality of their construction work and they commenced the restoration of the complete site, working in close conjunction with the National Trust who approved the detail of the restoration work.

This work has included the restoration of the old Manor House itself which is now a private dwelling house as well as the restoration and conversion of various outbuildings and ruined former cottages which are now rebuilt in their former glory.

This ambitious programme is now complete and the result is a very private complex of twelve cottages situated in the centre of extensive meadow land on the cliff tops to the West of St Ives.

From the very start of the project the aim was to create a sustainable and attractive setting whilst seeking to preserve ancient skills of stone working and wood working.

The result has exceeded our expectations and the site offers private parking at the entrance (the main site is car free)as well as access to the extensive network of local paths and fields.

In keeping with the mood of the times, all the buildings on the site have very high standards of insulations and glazing, exceeding the national requirement and the complex of a whole benefits from rainwater harvesting and storage and an on site recycling facility – strangely it is always the bottle bank section that fills up quickest!

Location - St Ives
The glorious town of St Ives is just a few minutes away from the Trowan by car or can be easily reached by footpath.

Whilst seeking to preserve the traditional enmity between the Manor of Trowan and the town of St Ives it would be churlish not to acknowledge that in terms of both cultural pursuits and beaches the town has a huge amount to offer including some of the best beaches in the world; art in every form from the Tate Gallery (which I believe also has a branch in London!) to the Barbara Hepworth Workshop as well as the intricate streets; restaurants and shops which make St Ives a truly beautiful and cosmopolitan town.
