Rock Cottage is a family owned 16th Century picturesque detached property, standing alone on the shores of the unspoilt Helford River, offering superb accommodation for up to six persons in three bedrooms. All rooms overlook the large terraced garden, the Mawgan Creek of the River and its surrounding ancient oak woodland. From the kitchen one may watch the many species of birds that visit the garden and the water or just contemplate the ever-changing view. In order to enjoy the seclusion and explore the River, a rowing dinghy is provided from Easter until the end of October, at no extra charge.

All rooms are well-appointed and furnished with full central heating by radiators. Rock Cottage is very popular because it offers a memorable experience in beautiful surroundings which have not changed for centuries.

This unspoilt view is unique to Rock Cottage and has been photographed and painted by many artists.
A comment from our Guest Book: "When we walked through the well painted gateway, we were absolutely stunned by the spectacular view which greeted us. It definitely has the 'wow' factor!"

Younger members of the family love to dangle lines for river crabs from the jetty, play in the garden or just explore the woods nearby.

At dusk and especially on a still evening, the many fish jumping create circles over the surface of the water. Fishing for Grey Mullet and other types of fish is very popular from either the jetty or rowing dinghy.

This special cottage, which is strictly No Smoking throughout, has been in the Dandy Family for over 50 years. During this time hundreds of people have taken the opportunity to experience a holiday in this idyllic place. We ensure that the facilities exceed today’s expected standards, and provide quality and value for money, together with many ‘home from home’ comforts.

Accommodation - The Entrance Hall leads to the Kitchen/Breakfast Room, Sitting Room and the Bathroom which has a full white bathroom suite with overbath electric shower, large towel radiator, razor socket, deep recessed window cill and bathroom cabinet for storage.

The Kitchen/Breakfast Room with its wonderful view, has a walk-in pantry and is fitted to high standards with a handmade beech table and chairs.

There is also a Bosch washing machine, dishwasher, built-in double fan-assisted oven, electric hob with hood, extractor fan, large fridge/freezer and microwave as well as many other kitchen essentials.

The beamed Sitting Room with its original cob walls is fully carpeted and furnished with a comfortable three piece suite, oak sideboard, dining table and chairs.

A television, VCR/DVD player and CD/radio system are provided. The large inglenook is fitted with an electric log effect stove. There is also a good selection of books and walks relating to the local area and Cornish culture.

An open-tread wooden staircase leads from the Sitting Room to the landing and two bedrooms. Both of these have superb unspoilt views of the Helford River.

The triple aspect Master Bedroom has a polished wooden floor with rugs and is furnished with a comfortable king size bed, oak dressing table with large mirror and matching chest of drawers, fitted double wardrobe, oak bedside tables and pottery lamps. The Second Bedroom, suitable for younger persons, has a polished wooden floor and rug, two single 2’6” beds, and oak chest of drawers. There is a selection of books for the children to enjoy at bedtime.

A few paces from the front door, across a slate courtyard is the Third Bedroom. Originally part of another cottage, this spacious room provides privacy for another couple or grandparents. Three large windows overlook the sunny patio, garden and Mawgan Creek. This room is furnished with a cream carpet, two very comfortable 3’ beds, and white Shaker style wardrobe, dressing table, large mirror, bedside cabinet and lamps. There is also a combined TV/VCR.

From the moment our guests arrive at Rock Cottage, they start their holiday. Personally prepared, they will find the beds made, all household requirements in place, many welcoming touches, and everything in excellent order throughout. In fact, Guests have told us on numerous occasions that, "Everything here is immaculate, with every need thought of — what a find!" This leads to a lot of repeat business and recommendations.

The large terraced garden with its many species of birds and wild flowers, is secluded. In the Spring the grass is a carpet of primroses with daffodils and bluebells to follow. It is a perfect place to relax, paint or enjoy a barbeque.
Down the stone steps to the rocky foreshore you will find ‘Peggy’ an 11ft rowing dinghy, useful for exploring the meandering creeks. One may also catch sight of Egrets, Herons, Kingfishers and many other water birds.

From the Cottage it is a ten minute walk to the village of Mawgan, with its original thatched cottage and historic stone cross. Within the village is the ancient church of St Mawgan, The Ship Inn & Old Courthouse Restaurant which serves both local ales and excellent food, and a Spar/PO convenience store which is open daily for fresh bread, local produce, papers etc. There is also an organic farm shop about one mile away.

There are a number of fine restaurants nearby, catering for all tastes and good pubs too. Helston (Town of the Floral Dance), is about five mile away.

The Lizard area has something for everyone and within 30 minutes you can reach some of the finest sandy beaches and coves, fishing harbours and National Trust Gardens. We also have water sports, horse riding, golf, art galleries, fishing trips, tin mines, Flambards Theme Park, National Seal Sanctuary and miles of coastal walks and lots more. Other places of interest are: St Michael’s Mount, Penzance (for helicopter flights or the Scillonian boat to the Scilly Isles), Lands End, St Ives, Eden Project and Newquay. All are within one hour’s drive from the Cottage.

Many of our guests return year after year to this unique and special place, confident that Rock Cottage and its surroundings will continue to meet their expectations. Discover the secrets of this delightful area for yourself!
