BARCLAY HOUSE lies on the edge of Looe, an historic Cornish fishing village dating from the 12th century. Carved into the hillside overlooking the East Looe river this six acre property has breathtaking views over the water and countryside beyond, yet we are only 10 minutes walk from the town, harbour, beach and sea.

Originally built around 1890 as a Victorian family villa of uncompromising architecture, this wonderful 10 bedroom house has a spacious elegance and magnificent relaxed air about it. Since we first walked in on 1st December 2006 we have been captivated daily by its fabulous position and the ever changing scenery.

Located on the ground floor of the house is the refurbished award winning River View restaurant as well as the lounge bar and sitting room complete with panoramic terrace overlooking the water (when the tide is in that is!) Drinks, light lunches and dinner are served al fresco when possible. You may perhaps enjoy relaxing by the heated outdoor pool nestled in a suntrap or enjoy some peace in our gardens and woodland.

In a separate annexe, we also have a fully fitted air conditioned gymnasium and sauna. A guest suite with bedroom, en-suite shower and separate sitting room leading onto a balcony offering spectacular River Views is also available here – which may be of interest to guests who have restricted mobility as this suite is on the ground floor of the annexe.

Just think.... ½ cold lobster on the terrace with a chilled bottle of Camel Valley White in summer, a steaming hot bowl of Fowey river mussels and a bottle of Camel Valley Red in winter..... you get the picture!!

The restaurant's french doors open out to the terrace and garden where drinks and even dinner can be enjoyed overlooking magnificent views of the east Looe River valley.

The restaurant features modern British coastal cuisine of Award Winning Head Chef Benjamin Palmer. We showcase the freshest local produce, meats and cheeses, not to mention the finest 'day boat' fish landed daily by the fishermen of Looe just half a mile away. Our daily changing dinner menu truly reflects what is best in season.

The wine list has been personally compiled by the Brooks family. We especially enjoy featuring local Camel Valley Wines on our list, grown and produced in nearby Bodmin, Cornwall by the Lindo family.
