Abstract Contemporary Art Painting/Tours:
5 days
Ever wondered what its all about? Stuck in a rut and can’t
seem to move forward? Where do you begin ? What’s all this
stuff about the unconscious? Why would anyone bother to create
such paintings in the first place?
You will be taken out on location at various times. Field
trips and gallery visits are a crucial part of this course
to help you to gain an sight into different ways of thinking,
looking and responding to the world around us and into our
selves.
We will gather visual references using a variety of methods.
On this course we will travel down to Newlyn to visit Penlee
House which exhibits a survey of the pioneers of the St.Ives
Art Colony, the Newlyn Art Gallery which is an exciting and
challenging venue that exhibits contemporary art and the best
of local painting and then the stunning new art space The
Exchange Gallery, Penzance, opened to the public in Summer
2007. Showcasing the very best of national and international
contemporary art - including that produced in the region.
We will then follow the coast and the paths of many Cornish
Artists to Landsend, St Just, Botallack and Zennor. Stopping
for lunch on route we make our way to Tate St Ives and the
Barbara Hepworth Museum.
I will also take you to various inspirational spots on the
Cornish South Coast. We will compare and contrast dramatic
coast lines of the Roseland, Ancient Churches, Tin Mines and
Fishing Villages. The course also includes a walking tour
of Mevagissey Harbour and an early morning walk (before breakfast!)
through the wooded paths leading up to the famous Heligan
Gardens.
After all this inspiration you will have 3 practical working
days. The course is intensive, days are long but exciting.
Be prepared to experiment and investigate. Our base is in
the heart of Mevagissey. Mevagissey is a traditional Cornish
fishing village located on the South Coast of Cornwall in
the area known as the Cornish Riviera.
Built in 1925 Jubilee Hall lies amongst the small fisherman’s
cottages. It is close to parking, shops, cafes, pubs, restaurants
and the harbour.
