Trowan

Quicks cottage is one of three carefully restored granite Victorian cottages, located in the beautiful hamlet of Trowan, St Ives. Set in spectacular coastal scenery on the rugged Cornish coast admired by D.H. Lawrence where there is superb walking country all around.

Trowan lies just outside St Ives off the road to Zennor down a traditional Cornish lane. It is just 2-3 minutes by car from St Ives, or, 20 minutes by foot following the coastal path. The Tate Gallery and the golden sands of Porthmeor beach are just a stone s throw away.

Off the beaten track, but not remote, Trowan enjoys the best of both worlds. The attractions of the town are within easy reach, but its secluded position offers tranquillity (and easy ample parking) during the busy summer periods.

The solid granite walls reflect sunlight from early in the morning through to late evening. From the kitchen, the east-facing patio enjoys the morning sun. The lounge s patio faces west is a perfect sun-trap ideal for relaxing in the evening sunshine.

Living Room

Inside, the cottage is beautifully converted reflecting the very high standards that are the hallmark of award-winning developers Mango Homes who carried out the restoration work in 2006.


High standards of insulation, double glazing and efficient combi central heating make this an ideal all-year-round holiday cottage. In the spacious lounge comfortable sofas are clustered round an inglenook granite fireplace with a wood burning stove for winter nights and a sunny west facing patio with BBQ for summer evenings. There is a LCD freeview TV, DVD player and hi fi system

The cottage comfortably sleeps four. The master bedroom has a double bed and is equipped with freeview TV and the second bedroom two 3 twin beds. Both bedrooms are beautifully presented in a traditional English cottage style complimented with simple hand-painted wooden furniture.

The contemporary bathroom features a large walk-in shower and a double ended bath for relaxing after a day at the beach or walking the coastal path.

Natural slate floors to the ground floor with timber floor boards contrast beautifully with exposed granite and soft painted plasterwork.

There is a generously sized kitchen with a farmhouse style table and ample space for family dining. The kitchen is hand made with granite surfaces and offers ample cooking facilities. It is well equipped with dishwasher, washer/dryer, fan oven and microwave plus all necesarry cooking utensils and crockery etc.

With the full range of modern amenities in a classic country cottage this is the perfect setting for a relaxing holiday whatever the season.

We now accept dogs for an additional cost of £20 per stay.

About Trowan

Trowan is at the centre of a ring of lush green fields approximately 1 mile from St Ives. It used to be the ancient Manor of Trowan  a small hamlet that pre-dates St Ives by many hundreds of years and which in its heyday of the mid eighteen hundreds provided a home for upwards of one hundred people.

Two years ago the entire hamlet was restored by Mango Homes - a specialist development company that has won numerous awards for the quality of its restoration projects. The restoration work was done with the assistance of the National Trust and included the restoration of the old Manor House, farm buildings and ruined former cottages.

There is ample car parking in the large car park at the entrance to the hamlet. There are way-marked paths through the fields to the coastal path to St Ives and to Zennor.

In keeping with our environmental principles, all buildings on the site have very high standards of insulation and double glazing and the complex as a whole benefits from rainwater harvesting and an on-site recycling facility.

Availability & Booking

Most bookings are Saturday to Saturday and we regret we are unable to accommodate pets. The property is non-smoking throughout. Some Friday to Friday bookings are available - please enquire.

Short breaks are available out of peak season. Please telephone for rates.
The prices shown above are per cottage per week and include VAT.
Linen, heating and electricity is included except where shown in the cottage details.
For one week holidays, prices are based on the date band in which the holiday starts.
For two weeks holidays or longer, prices are based on the date band in which each week starts.
As part of the annual pricing review we reserve the right to move individual cottages up or down the price bands and to alter date breaks.

The property is available from 3pm on day of arrival and must be vacated by 10am on day of departure.

Outside of the peak season, small parties and short breaks may by arranged by separate agreement.
