Places To Go
The village of St.Tudy is
well placed for visiting many of the fascinating places
that Cornwall has to offer. The north Coast with its fabulous
beaches is a short drive away. Bodmin Moor offers miles
of unspoilt walking country. Beaches
Local beaches include Polzeath and Trebarwith, both about
20mins away on the north coast. The south coast can be
reached in about 30 mins and beaches there include Readymoney
Cove, in Fowey and Par Sands near St Austell. Surfing
Polzeath and Trebarwith are the closest surfing beaches,
with Crackington Haven, Millook, Widemouth Bay and Bude
in one direction and of course the surfing Mecca of Newquay
further down the north coast. Walking
Opportunities for walking are endless from the footpaths
within the parish to the North Cornwall Coast path (part
of the south west peninsular coast path) and Bodmin Moor
which is about two miles distant at its closest. There
is also The Camel Trail which is a footpath/cycle track
on the course of the old Bodmin and Wenford Railway and
which follows the River Camel from two miles east of the
village to Bodmin, on to Wadebridge where bikes can be
hired and then on to Padstow alongside the Estuary with
its wealth of wading birds. Gardens, Houses, etc.
The Eden project and the lost gardens of Heligan are both
near St Austell and about half an hour away. Pencarrow
house and it's gardens are only about four miles away
towards Bodmin, and amongst the various National Trust
properties are Lanhydrock at Bodmin, Trerice near Newquay
about 12 miles away. Cotehele House on the banks of the
River Tamar is about an hours drive away but it is well
worth it for the medieval house, its gardens mill and
forge, and the quayside complex which includes the restored
tamar sailing barge 'The Shamrock'. Also on the Tamar
is Morwelham Quay which is a restored copper mine and
quayside which gives a real insight into a Victorian community,
with the farm and stables, cooperage, the quay managers
office and various cottages that are as they would have
been when this was a working community. Children's Activities
There are several leaflets in the cottage about various
theme parks. Lappa Valley and Crealy Adventure Park are
near Newquay and further afield are Dobwalls, Flambards
at Helston and Lands End. Pubs/Eating out
On your doorstep, The Cornish Arms in the village is a
great local with a choice of real ales and some tremendous
meals on the menu. In the neighbouring villages are The
Blisland Inn at Blisland, a previous national winner of
the CAMRA Pub of the Year; The Old Inn at St Breward does
excellent bar meals and also has a restaurant; The St
Kew Inn, at St Kew Village is worth a visit for the building
alone but also serves beer from the wood and does excellent
food. Trebarwith Strand has The Port William which looks
down on the beach and has a fantastic view up the coast.
Boscastle has always been worth a visit and is back on
it's feet after the recent flood. All three pubs are excellent
The Wellington, The Cobweb Inn and The Napoleon.
