Bos Cottage
The Area

South-west Cornwall is a fascinating area of contrasting beauties which words can barely do justice. As close as you can come to a 'foreign' country without leaving England, there are numerous facilities and places of interest for the visitor, to suit every taste. Renowned for its very mild climate, an enjoyable holiday can be had here at any time of year. Its intriguing history, from prehistoric standing stones to now abandoned tin mines, is readily accessible. Whilst there are miles of magnificent, rugged coastline, replete with small coves, there are also plenty of large sandy beaches. Sea trips can be taken to view the coast and observe the seals, dolphins and other marine life. Footpaths and open access areas, many National Trust, abound, so that even at the height of summer, peace and seclusion in stunning surroundings can be found. But there are also numerous indoor and outdoor visitor attractions of great variety for children and adults alike.

Hayle (1 mile): St. Ives Bay is regarded as one of the most beautiful bays in the world. Hayle's three miles of golden sand form part of the bay and are backed by extensive dunes with coastal paths. There is fabulous surfing, a tidal estuary RSPB bird reserve, and a conservation zoo at Paradise Park. The town of Hayle has a rich history as a former industrial port, based on tin and copper mining and working. it has many shops, including an indoor market and a modern supermarket. The estuary, particularly known for its winter bird visitors, is a Mecca for birdwatchers.

St. Ives (5 miles): Picturesque harbour, safe beaches, cobbled streets, excellent restaurants and numerous galleries, including The Tate St. Ives. Several pubs have live music. The town also has a Disco, Theatre, Cinema, Craft Market, Museum, Indoor Swimming Pool and Leisure Centre.

Penzance (7 miles): Bustling and historic market town with a rich artistic tradition. It has a fine promenade, yacht club and windsurfing. Host to the West Cornwall Maritime Festival and with easy access to the sub-tropical gardens on the Isles of Scilly from its heliport or ferry terminal. Just two miles down the coast at Marazion is the famous island castle on St. Michael's Mount (open to the public).

The Lost Gardens of Heligan, the Eden Project, Land's End and the spectacular open air Minack Theatre on the cliff edge at Porthcurno are just a few of the many delights a little further afield.
