| Shell Cottage, 4 Hicks Court, The Digey, St Ives,
Cornwall |
| A traditional
granite cottage sleeping 6 in a quiet court in the heart of the town,
close to Porthmeor Beach and the Tate Gallery. |
Our Cottage
Is in a quiet and convenient position. All the beaches are within
easy walking distance and Porthmeor Beach (the surfing beach) is close
enough to carry your tea tray! It’s also the ideal spot to take your
barbeque and watch the sunset over the dying embers - as we often
do. In the summer we have visits from seals, dolphins and basking
sharks. There are surf lessons available, and a lifeguard keeps watch
over all in the season. The waters are blessed by the Gulf Stream.
The coast path runs nearby and walks in either direction - to Zennor
with its Wayside Museum - or to Lelant (and back on the little train)
are both picturesque and fascinating. |
| A dear little cottage, full of charm, just
2 minutes from the beach. |

The Area
abounds in historic monuments, from Iron Age hillforts and ancient
field boundaries, to the numerous remains of the mining industry.
Geevor Mine is has just been designated a World Heritage Site - it
has a wonderful museum and you can go down underground to see what
it was really like. There are galleries galore, and many open studios,
while the Tate with its regularly changing exhibitions is just behind
the cottage. It also has a lovely roof top licensed cafe. Barbara
Hepworth’s studio and the Leach Pottery are both within walking distance
too. |
Outside
There is a cute sun trap of a Mediterranean-style patio upstairs with
table and chairs and a palm tree! To the front off the kitchen there
is a wooden bench - perfect for morning coffee and meeting the neighbours! |
How to find us
Approaching St Ives from the A30, take a right turn at the roundabout,
then first left down the hill towards Trencrom; this is the Holiday
Route and will bring you in to the top of the town. Keep straight
on this road for about 3 miles to the T junction. Go right and down
in to St Ives. Follow the signs left towards Porthmeor and straight
in to the Barnoon Car Park. Hopefully you will find a space here!
A footpath leads down the hill into Virgin Street; at the end turn
left into The Digey, and Hicks Court will be found 100 metres along
on your left, through the granite arch. Shell Cottage is at the far
end. Welcome |
