The Area
Just a few miles inland of St.Ives bay where the North and South Coast almost meet is Trencrom Hill, an Iron Age Hill Fort owned by the National Trust and surrounded by woods and gorse. Standing on it's granite outcrops give you some of the best views over West Cornwall to the North coast with it's long sandy beaches and lighthouse and the South coast's St. Michael's Mount sitting in the bay near Penzance.
The Cottage
Beside this hill, tucked in an idyllic sheltered valley is Gorse Cottage. It was built around 1800 for miners and is now a Grade II listed building which has been carefully renovated to keep it's original character. Outside there is a little stream that runs through the garden and a natural spring beside the lane. The cottage has 3 good sized bedrooms, one with french doors opening onto a sunny private courtyard.
The open plan living room has wooden floors, open beams and a large inglenook fireplace with a woodburner. It opens onto a patio and a lawn overlooking countryside. Our cottage is normally lived in so it is fully equipped with fridge, freezer, dishwasher and washing machine, bathroom with bath and shower, TV and video. There is private parking in front of the house.
There is no smoking allowed in the cottage and, due to the abundance of wildlife (pheasants, rabbits and a woodpecker) in the garden, we do not allow dogs.
Amenities
Although it is tucked away, the cottage is only a few miles from both coasts and all the local amenities. There are 3 pubs and a farm shop within 2 miles and just a 15-20 min drive from either St.Ives of Penzance. The nearest train links are at St. Erth, 2 miles away.
The small fishing town of St.Ives is just 4 miles away and is a great place to eat, shop, wander round the art galleries or enjoy the beautiful harbour and beaches. In the immediate area there is plenty to do. Gorse Cottage is situated right on the St. Michael's Way footpath which runs from St. Ives to Penzance and around the peninsula. There is a huge choice of beaches all within easy drive where you can windsurf, kitesurf, surf or just relax. You will also find bird watching on the estuary, fresh water fishing, horse riding and golf courses all within a couple miles.
Above all, you will find the cottage a perfect retreat from which to explore the magic of West Cornwall.
