St Ives
Is situated on the
northern edge of the Land’s End Peninsula. Both the
town and its setting are quite unique and very beautiful.
It has a Mediterranean feel with its maze of small,
cobbled streets and narrow alleyways surrounding a sheltered
harbour.
Although there is
still a small fishing industry, it is nothing to what
it was. The town was shaped by the needs of local fishing,
mining and farming communities and during the last hundred
or so years, it has also been shaped by the artistic
community. Artists have been and still are, drawn here
by the exceptional light quality and stunning scenery.
St Ives offers the visitor everything that they could
wish for in a seaside resort. There is something for
everyone.
There are wonderful
clean and sandy beaches, all within reach of Beach Break.
Porthmeor, the closest, facing north is a prime surf
spot and a surf school operates from the western end
of the beach. Porthminster, Porthgwidden and the Harbour
beach are particularly popular with families.
For those wanting
more cerebral pursuits there is Tate St Ives plus countless
other galleries and studios. There are plenty of cafes
and restaurants to suit every taste and pocket, shops,
pubs and live entertainment.
