Cornwall
Though weather can never be guaranteed, if it is sunny anywhere in the UK, it's Cornwall! Cornwall is famous for it's wonderful beaches as well as great restaurants, with Rick Stein and Jamie Oliver both choosing the region to showcase their talents. There is a real variety of attractions and sporting activities to suit all...
  • the Eden Project
  • a day out by helicopter or seacat to the Isles of Scilly
  • theme parks
  • the coastal path
  • quality golf courses - links and parkland
  • surfing - great waves for experts and fun lessons for beginners!
St Ives
St Ives itself has become particularly famous since the arrival of the Tate Art Gallery in 1993. The town now boasts many great restaurants and coffee shops as well as the traditional Cornish pasty makers! It is easy to spend literally days on the fabulous beaches (St Ives has 5 and there are many more within a short drive) or rambling through the cobbled streets and harbour, marvelling at the town's offerings and maybe picking up a souvenir or two, a surf board, or even a designer outfit.
There are lots of attractions to interest the younger members of the family - Paradise Park has many wonderful birds as well as a huge indoor play area in case of rain! The St Ives railway chugs along the coast with stunning sea views. St Ives also has a Leisure Centre with a swimming pool and a gym with amazing views of the town. You will find a multitude of leaflets at the cottage when you arrive to help you plan your stay.
There are watersports in St Ives and in the surrounding area, from jet skis to surfing. There is also horse riding, golf and lots of walks and cycling - coastal and rural.
Considering how geared up for tourism St Ives is, it is amazing that the atmosphere is still very quaint and relaxing, with a slower pace of life - ideal for a real escape from everyday bustle!
