Within a Couple of Minutes Walk: a post office, a small
grocery store/off-licence and several hotels offering meals to nonresidents.
Within a Couple of Minutes Drive: a Spar convenience shop,
Somerfields supermarket.
Eating Out: There are plenty of places to choose from. My
favourites are Lewinnick Lodge, on Pentire Headland, Fistral Blu,
in the brand new Surfing Centre on Fistral Beach, If you fancy treating
yourselves to a meal, the Headland Hotel is only on the other side
of Fistral Beach.
Of course, no-one can visit Cornwall without indulging in a delicious
oven-fresh warm Cornish Pasty! Mmmm! I can smell them now. We buy
ours from the little off-licence at the beginning of Pentire Avenue.
In my opinion, they are best eaten outside in the fresh air, after
you have worked up an appetite on one of the many nearby coastal
walks. (Keep it under your hat, but the best place to take a break
is at the tip of Pentire Headland.)
Outdoor Activities: The cottage is available all year round
and is ideal for those interested in almost any outdoor activities,
including surfing, horse riding, breathtaking coastal walks and
challenging rounds of golf. Just behind Fistral Beach is the golf
course of Newquay Golf Club. The exposed position of the course
and the inclusion of some very challenging greenside bunkers make
this a perfect course on which to improve your accuracy!
Beaches: Fistral Beach is world-famous as the premier beach in Europe
for surfing and surfing competitions. Other Newquay Beaches include
Tolcarne Beach, Towan Beach near the harbour, Holywell Bay and Watergate
Bay.
Newquay is a great base from which to explore the rest of Cornwall
as it is central to all of the famous towns and attractions in Cornwall.
