Little Penquite Barn is an attractive detached stone and slate barn converted into a cottage, lying in a peaceful valley on the south eastern edge of Bodmin Moor. Penquite means in Cornish ‘the end of the wood’. Little Penquite Barn is approached by a private track, and is part of an ancient farm, located in its own granite-walled garden. There are 10 acres of meadows attached to the cottage, sloping down to the River Tiddy, a tributary of the River Lynher, and they provide an opportunity for a peaceful early morning or evening stroll. There is an abundance of birds, and deer live in the woods. Pets welcome.
The front door opens directly into a pleasant beamed sitting room, comfortably furnished with sofas, occasional tables, a wood-burning stove, television & video, bookshelves and a dining table & chairs overlooking the garden. Night-storage heaters provide additional heating when necessary. A fully equipped kitchen area (oven & hob, refrigerator, sink, working surfaces, units & shelving) is fitted in one corner. A glazed door opens onto a sheltered patio with garden furniture, beautifully positioned to catch the afternoon and evening sun, with a barbecue, chairs and table.
A staircase leads up to a double bedroom beamed to the apex of the roof, with twin beds which can be converted into a large double bed, and an ensuite bathroom with WC, hand basin and bath with shower attachment. Large windows light the bedroom and staircase.
The cottage is a mile south of Caradon Hill on the edge of the moor, well placed for the walking, horse riding and water sports offered on the moor. The Cheesewring and the Hurlers are a short distance away. The village of Pensilva, with its well-stocked shop, is a mile to the north, and the ancient town of Liskeard is three miles to the south. Several pubs within easy reach offer good quality lunches and evening meals, and, for those interested, good real ale. The south coast beaches are 20 minutes drive, the north coast also a reasonable distance. Several of Cornwall’s beautiful gardens, Cothele, Anthony, and Lanhydrock are a short distance away, and Fowey and the Eden Project are a 30 minute drive.
