About
the Area
|
| Beaches:- This part of west
Cornwall is blessed with the mildest climate in the UK thanks to the GulfStream
and has some of the most dramatic and unspoilt coastline in the country.
Here you will find secluded sandy coves, wide surfing beaches and rocky
inlets echoing the past sounds of smugglers landing. |

|
The nearest beach, just 5 minutes
drive - or 15 minutes spectacular walk along the coast path - is Sennen
Cove. Here is one of the finest beaches in the UK with golden sand and all
year surfing on the blue waters. |
| A little further afield, approx.
10 minutes drive, is Porthcurno. Walking down to the turquoise sea
of this sandy cove anyone could be forgiven for thinking they were on some
idyllic Greek island - especially when set against the backdrop of the open
air Minack Theatre, which guards its approaches. |

| Walking From the
Old Dairy you can see the South West coastal path following the inlets and
headlands which characterise the granite outcrop of Land’s End. Access is
only several hundred metres away and, heading North, will take you through
Sennen round to Cape Cornwall. Head South and you will eventually pass through
Porthcurno round to Lamorna Cove. Each turn of the path bringing a joy to
remember. Low tide will reveal hidden sandy coves which you need share with
only the seals. Venture off the path inland to refresh at a local village
or simply enjoy the lush rolling countryside. The more dedicated walkers
can traverse the whole Peninsula from St Ives to St Michael’s Mount in a
weeks holiday. |

Bird Watching The Old Dairy
is a bird watchers paradise. The south-west tip of Cornwall is the best
location in the county and one of the top ten sites in the UK for watching
migrating land and sea birds. The garden and fields viewed from your patio
are frequently broadcasted sitings. Our latest claim to fame was in late
2002 when a western Bonelli’s warbler was in the garden for 10 days. |
| Eating out Land’s
End itself has a restaurant and bars. Less than 1/2 mile away is Sennen
village with the famous First and Last Inn and a fish & chip restaurant.
A little further, down in Sennen Cove, is The Old Success Inn with wonderful
restaurant and pub grub. Nearby Attractions Penzance is 20 minutes drive away. From here you can sail or fly ( by helicopter ) to the Isles of Scilly. Penzance has banks, supermarkets, high street shopping, cinema, restaurants, streets winding up from the harbour full of maritime history with a fascinating diversity of crafts and goods. The coast here is dominated by St Michael’s Mount. St Ives - a 30 minutes drive away - is also a browser/diners haven but still has a vibrant artistic community with Tate St Ives and the Barbara Hepworth Museum establishing international recognition. The old mining town of St Just is 15 minutes drive away surrounded by the heritage of this great Cornish industry. On the south coast Lamorna Cove, Mousehole and Newlyn are all en-route to Penzance. There is a wealth of gardens and houses worth visiting in the area. From Trengwainton in Penzance to Trebah and Glendurgan on the Helford river. A little further afield, with approx. 90 minutes drive, is the Cornish jewel - the Eden Project. Nearby is it’s stablemate the Lost Gardens of Heligan. |
