Crackington Haven is an unspoilt and uncommercialised area, designated
as of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The coastal footpath between Widemouth Bay and
Boscastle is one of the most spectacular stretches in Cornwall. Leading out to
the coast are deep, wooded valleys, most of which are accessible by public footpaths.
At Widemouth Bay there is a splendid expanse of sandy beach; the beach at Crackington
Haven is of sand, pebbles and rock pools, with dramatic National Trust coastline
to the north and south. The quaint village of Boscastle with its natural harbour,
and Tintagel with its castle and legends of King Arthur, are a short drive away
down the coast. Nearby are facilities for pony trekking, angling, surfing, wind
surfing, golf and, of course, walking along the lanes and sheltered, leafy valleys
and on the coastal footpath. Nearby pubs serve dinner, basket meals and cream
teas. There are tennis courts at Crackington Haven, and a newly-built local cinema
within a few miles.
The Mineshop cottages are in the parish of St. Gennys just a short drive
away, St. Gennys Parish lies on the dramatic and spectacular stretch of coast
between Bude and Boscastle, an area designated as of Outstanding Natural Beauty,
and within the Heritage Coastal Belt. From Mineshop a footpath leads through the
wooded valley to Crackington Haven, one mile away (one and a half miles by road).
Here there is a sandy bathing and surfing beach, with rock pools, where mussels,
limpet and cowrie shells may be discovered and prawns hide in the seaweed fringes.
