| Area Information |
| Falmouth |
| Falmouth is a vibrant seaside town
offering plenty of activities whatever the weather. The
bustling town centre is adorned with unique shops and
boutiques, as well as the standard high street stores,
and a great array of waterside restaurants and pubs. |
| Cornwall's largest port and the third
deepest natural harbour in the world; Falmouth, with it's
pretty creeks and family orientated beaches, is a fantastic
location for water lovers and those wishing to explore
the sea. |
| Getting about could not be easier.
Leave your car behind and climb aboard one of the many
pleasure boats and ferries which ply the local waters
to St Mawes, Flushing, Smuggler's Cottage at Tolverne,
Truro and the Helford Passage. Yachts with skippers can
be chartered by the day. |
| Helford River |
| The Helford River flows from Gweek
to the sparkling waters of Falmouth Bay. Immortalised
by Daphne du Maurier and her novel, Frenchman's Creek,
the river is a paradise for wildlife which can be viewed
from the footpaths which meander along the wooded creeks,
inlets and riverbanks. |
| Visitors can enjoy paddling about
in a hire boat, swimming from one of the small coves or
just sitting and admiring the magnificent unspoilt views
of the Helford area. |
| Mawnan Smith |
| This popular village lies in the North
Helford area, about ten minutes drive from Falmouth. Surrounded
by farmland, there are paths leading to the coves and
beaches of Falmouth Bay, the coastal walks of Helford
Estuary and the picturesque, waterside hamlet of Durgan.
|
| The beautiful, sub-tropical gardens
of Glendurgan, Trebah and Carwinion House & Garden are
all within walking distance. |
| Feock, Flushing and Mylor |
| From Falmouth, the surrounding villages
of Feock, Flushing, Mylor Bridge, Perranaworthal and Ponsanooth
have the advantage of being about ten minutes drive to
Falmouth and fifteen minutes to Truro. |
| The villages are centrally placed
for reaching coasts to the North, South and West and have
friendly local shops and country inns serving good food.
These are notably the Norway Inn on the road from Truro,
the waterside Pandora Inn on Restronguet creek and The
Staghunt at Ponsanooth. |
