| Nearby |
| Houndapitt Farm Cottages are located in the heart
of the countryside, yet close to the sea. Just down the road is the
spectacular beach at Sandymouth which is excellent for swimming or
surfing and is patrolled by lifeguards during the season. At low tide
the beach stretches all the way to Bude some three miles south with
some amazing rock formations along the way! There are plenty of rock
pools and the abundant sea-life will keep the children amused for
hours. |
| Just to the north is another beach, Duckpool,
which is located at the end of the beautiful Coombe Valley. In addition
to the National Trust keeping the coast as nature intended, there
are also some lovely walks through woodlands and countryside, inland,
to the village of Kilkampton or along the coast path to Morwenstow
and the Cornwall/Devon border. |
 |
| Around Bude |
| "The Loveliest Peace of Cornwall" - the
phrase aptly used to describe this part of North Cornwall - was adopted
many years ago to summarise the special nature of the area. Sir John
Betjeman endorsed this by describing Bude as "the least rowdy
modern seaside town in Cornwall". Today, this is as appropriate
as ever it was. |
| The town was "born" with the arrival,
in 1819, of the Canal, built to carry lime-rich sea sand to infertile,
inland soils. However it was not until the arrival of the railway
(now sadly departed) that Bude grew in size to become a popular Victorian
resort. The town therefore owes its existence to Holidaymakers and
to this end still provides a friendly Cornish welcome and boasts the
top Tourist Information Centre in the South West! |
| Famed for its beaches, Bude has a wealth of other
assets. Never too crowded, the town itself is divided by a magnificent
18-hole golf course and is flanked to the west by rolling downland
on the cliff-tops which provide some excellent short walks as well
as playing host to sporting activities such as pitch and putt, cricket
and some superb "championship" grass tennis courts. |
| Within a few minutes drive of Bude are many more
exciting places to visit. Picturesque fishing villages like Port Isaac
and Port Quin with their narrow winding streets, Boscastle's sheltered
harbour and Tintagel's Arthurian legend and quaint old Post Office.
Beautiful countryside walks with equally enchanting names such as
the Valency Valley, St. Nectan's Glen and the Rocky Valley. North
of Bude, Hartland and Clovelly are essential stops on most visitors
itinerary. |
| Situated close to the Cornwall/Devon border, Houndapitt
Farm Cottages are situated in an ideal location to explore this beautiful
part of the Westcountry. |
