The name Chylason translated from Cornish means ‘House of Peace’. A well known Cornish Bard named Robert Mortan Nance, lived here from 1914 to 1959, he did much in the 1920s to resurrect the ancient Cornish dialogue. He would meet with other Bards sitting around the stone circle in the garden, discussing, teaching and writing about the Cornish language. As part of the St Ives art scene, a very good friend. the world-renowned potter Bernard Leach, as a gift gave him some ceramic fire place tiles which remain in perfect condition in the lounge today.
Carbis Bay has its own stunning beach just a five to ten minute walk down the hill. St Ives can be reached via a wonderful 25 minute cliff path walk. Or why not take a 5 minute walk down the road to Carbis bay train station and jump on the very picturesque costal train into the heart of St Ives. There are nearby bus stops with frequent buses into St Ives and beyond! Nearby are a supermarket, post office, convenience store and restaurants.
Chylason is a family home only available during the holiday period. It provides luxury accomodation with a welcoming home from home atmosphere. The house is equipped and finished to a high standard, including many classic 20th Century design pieces.
