DRIVING? Many of our guests have said these directions were excellent.
These directions are not necessarily for
the shortest routes to get to us, but they are the easiest if
you don't know the roads well. We advise you to read the instructions
before setting off, since it can be easy to get lost in and
around Cornwall. If you do get lost en route, then the easiest
thing to do is to work out where you are on a map, and head
towards St Austell along the A390 and then to the Britannia
Inn, which is next to a roundabout on the main road just east
of St Austell (between St Austell and St Blazey). Feel free
to ring us at any point, as we will be happy to help direct
you.
Directions from Exeter or further north:
If
you are coming by car from Exeter or further north, then the
easiest way to get to us is to take the M5 south to Exeter,
then the A30 west.
IMPORTANT: The first exit to the A30 on the M5 is the A30 East,
and is labelled "A30(E)". Do not take this one. About
2 miles farther is the second exit to the A30, which will be
in the direction of Okehampton and Launceston. The A30 is not
a continuous main road between where these two exits go onto
the A30, and if you take the first exit, you will find it difficult
to get back on target without a map as you will be heading in
the wrong direction, and will need to go through the town to
get on the A30 going in the right direction.
Depending on speed, you will be travelling along the A30 for
about 40-60 mins. Not long after the turning to Bodmin, take
the exit to St Austell, along the A391, and follow it all the
way to the end (which will take about 15 mins, and will end
at a T-junction and a set of traffic lights). Turn left onto
the A390 in the direction of St Blazey, Par and Fowey. After
about 1 mile, you will come to a roundabout with the Britannia
Inn on the opposite side.
Directions from west of St
Austell:
You will need to get onto the A390, and head towards St Austell.
Keep going on the A390 until just after you leave St Austell,
where you will meet the roundabout with the Britannia Inn next
to it, on the opposite side.
Directions from between
Plymouth and St Austell:
The easiest way is to travel along
the A390 west until you reach St Austell, and follow the instructions
below from the Britannia Inn. This time you will be approaching
from the other direction, so you will be going down a steep
hill from St Blazey, and the Britannia Inn will be on your left
before the roundabout.
NOTE: You won't actually see a sign saying that you have arrived
at St Austell, since it is a few hundred yards farther up the
road, so look out for the Britannia Inn as you are travelling
down the hill from St Blazey.
IMPORTANT: If you are coming along the A390 from farther west
than Dobwalls (about half way between Plymouth and St Austell),
you will need to make sure that you continue along the A390.
From Plymouth direction, there is a junction at Dobwalls where
the A390 merges into the A38 if you go straight on, and you
need to take a left to keep on the A390. The A390 will be point
towards St Blazey and St Austell, and the A38 to Bodmin. If
you go past this junction (if you come to Trago Mills, then
you've gone too far!), then you can take any of the next few
lefts to get back onto the A390 - these will all be small Cornish
lanes though. If you miss these, then the A38 meets the A30
at Bodmin, and you can travel west along the A30 for a few miles
and follow the instructions from the A30 above.
Directions
from the Britannia Inn to us (for all above)
Depending on the direction you have come from, turn onto Par
Moor, which is signposted to Par and Fowey (if you have come
from Plymouth direction, you will turn left, otherwise it will
be right). Follow Par Moor round to the end (about 4-5 mins),
and after you go under the second railway bridge, take a right
at the turning next to the greengrocer's, in the direction of
Fowey . After going over a level crossing, you will go onto
a one-way system. Follow the one-way system along Morland Rd,
then take a right (still on the one-way system) onto Eastcliffe
road.
When you go past the Spar shop on your left, get into the right-hand
lane, as if to turn right back onto Par Green (straight on would
take you to Fowey and Par Sands). When you get to the corner,
which has an island on it, instead of turning right back onto
Par Green (which is almost a U-turn) , cross over the road into
the driveway on the right-hand side. We can be identified by
the brown fence and our B&B sign. |
