SEABIRDS HOUSE is at 1 Godrevy Terrace St Ives, Cornwall.
Godrevy Terrace is right in the centre of St Ives at the top of
the hill which divides the harbour side of town from the Porthmeor
(surf) Beach side. The Tate Gallery is just below us - about 50
yards away, although to walk down to the entrance is a little
further.

HISTORY The building was previously known as Seabirds Holiday
Flats. Built in 1912 as a private house, it was converted into
holiday flats in 1967. Incredibly, these newly converted flats
shared communal bathrooms and loos - there were 3 of each on the
first floor, and 3 of each in the back addition. On the plans, at
least one of the six flats is described as a "six berth"! If anyone
remembers the building in those days and has a tale to tell, we'd
love to hear it. Various ad hoc alterations must have been made over
the years, and when we bought the property in 2000 there were 7
flats, in very poor
condition. |
