House from The Island The Island isn't really an island of course. It's a promontory, also known as St Ives Head - a green and rocky outcrop poking out into the sea and marking the western end of St Ives Bay. The eastern end of the bay is Godrevy Point, and just off that is Godrevy Island, which has a lighthouse on it. It's a lovely walk around the island in all weathers, and a favoured spot for birdwatchers ("birders" is the proper term now). We've often seen seals from there too. Porthmeor beach faces west and is a famous surfing beach. You can sit in the Tate Gallery's excellent cafe, or in the cafe on the beach, and watch surfers all the year round. This photo was taken on a hot sunny day when there was no surf! The 2 top floors of Seabirds House have views of Porthmeor beach, and from the ground floor you can see the Island.
