Holiday flats in the small village of Helford Passage overlooking
the beautiful Helford River.
Demelza consists of 2 flats plus the owner’s accommodation. The
stunning views and position just above the beach make it a great
place to relax. There is always something to watch on the river,
fishing boats returning with their catch, yachts creeping in and
joining the throng on moorings, dinghy sailors, pleasure boats and
the local gigs.
It is one of the loveliest areas in Cornwall, immortalised in Daphne
du Maurier’s Frenchman’s Creek. The air of mystery and romance is
heightened by the dark shadows cast on the water on sunlight days.
The estuary stretches inland for over 5 miles, from the wider bays
in the east to Gweek in the West. As it narrows ancient oaks trees
line the banks with their branches reaching down to the water. Small
boats can be hired to explore the patchwork of creeks and inlets,
haven for wildlife. You may see dolphins, seals, herons and perhaps
a darting kingfisher.
Locally a footpath leads to Durgan and onto Rosemullion Head. The
National Trust owns much of the area. Trebah and Glendurgan are
two renowned local Gardens. A passenger ferry service operates throughout
the summer months, hence the name of the Ferryboat Inn. Across the
water another pub awaits to welcome you, the Shipwrights Arms.
Falmouth is a bustling Seaport with plenty of restaurants, shops,
Art theatre, Castle and the National Maritime Museum. Eden, Heligan
and the famous cliff top Minack theatre are just over an hours drive
away.
