This
is a description of a typical February/March two week trekking holiday. (Future treks will follow
similar routes and might also encompass parts of the foothills of
The High Atlas). In February or March it is springtime in this region and the almond blossom trees are in full sweet honey smelling bloom! Travel is usually on a Saturday or Sunday (outward) - with return being either 2 weeks later, or after a few extra days down by the sea. It is not necessary that you accept the flight schedule that we design the itinerary around - you may wish to make your own travel arrangements and join the rest of the group in Marrakech. Quite often, some people make other additional arrangements for earlier or later personal explorations. From the UK we used to use British Airways or Royal Air Maroc, but recently both EasyJet and Ryanair have commenced cheap flights, making the whole trip much much more affordable. What used to cost about £275 round trip can now be bought for as little as £68. * * * |

This
particular trip allowed for the first night in our Marrakech hotel and
then two further nights there after the trek ended - (unless taking
the Essaouira option). Please note - your return day is variable.

Sometimes, the planes get booked a long time in advance, so it's best to plan ahead if possible. Whichever method of travel you select, we strongly advise you to take out suitable travel insurance, which includes medical and personal accident risks (and repatriation costs) and cancellation. The areas we trek in are remote, fairly rugged and not easily accessible by wheeled vehicle. You should consider your suitability for such trekking: Walking can be over rough ground at times, sustained for six hours at a time (with breaks), although we don't hurry. Some snow may be encountered at high altitudes - though probably only for 1 or 2 days of the trek. Most of the trek is through valleys and gorges - with opportunities for rest and relaxation. The ground is rocky and good footwear is advisable, though I myself have done the whole trek several times wearing hiking sandals only. The good thing is - the mules will carry all your luggage, so you don't need to scrimp! Upon confirmation of your booking, we advise you of the necessary things to bring - probably the most important being a sleeping bag which is good “down to freezing” - but don't worry - most of the nights are at lower altitudes and there, the temperatures are perfectly reasonable for camping. Many days you can be in shorts and tee shirt! What is included in the GROUND COST - and additional exp's likely to be incurred: Collection at Marrakech Airport and transportation to Hotel Ali in central city - all hotel costs, including dinners and breakfast included. Introduction to Morocco and the trek will be in the hotel after dinner, on the evening before departure to Jebel Sahro. Services of ourselves (Martin or Pete) and Berber guide (Slimane Baadoud or his brother Said,) mini bus, mules, muleteers (mule handlers) all included from point of arrival until return to Marrakech at end of trek. All meals during trek are included. Any pocket money, drinks or gratuities (tips) are not included. If you elect to take the extra days on the coast, the return bus fare, hotel and meal costs should be in the region of £150 - £200. Please allow for any tips, purchases of presents or crafts - and any exceptional items you might buy. The ground cost of this 2 week trip is currently £595, not including any extra days in Essaouira. The air fare is currently between £65 and £150 with EasyJet or Ryanair including all taxes. |
