Adventureline International - France,
Two very different destinations,
THE DORDOGNE, THE FRENCH PYRENEES.

THE DORDOGNE. Groups of friends or societies only - no single travellers trips currently planned.

The Dordogne in South West France is an area of diverse landscapes, villages and towns. There are beautiful flowing rivers rushing through gorges and wooded hillsides. There are many cultivated fields of grapes, corn, walnuts, almonds, apples and other produce. We will gently meander through charming rustic countryside with many places to stop for a picnic and perhaps even a swim. Vast forests with fungi, plants and birds are a pleasure to walk through along rarely used paths, ending up at picturesque villages with a bar for a leisurely coffee or beer. Many villages still contain medieval buildings, and there are an abundance of Chateaux, gardens and prehistoric caves with sculptures and ancient Cro Magnon paintings adorning the walls, deep within the bowels of the earth. There are other caves with magnificent calcitic accretions that adorn the walls and ceilings - truly a wondrous region for this phenomenon! One day, we will gently (and safely) canoe down the Dordogne River for almost 28 km's, with numerous Chateaux rising up from the river banks, hike through the forests, stroll through ancient medieval villages and explore chateaux. The walking is fairly leisurely with plenty of wild flowers, birds and butterflies to observe. We will visit a thousand year old fortress in remarkable condition and an old 16th century mill, where they use original water powered machinery to grind the locally grown walnuts and almonds, to then press hydraulically to produce delicious cooking and salad oils! Last but not least we will visit a truly fantastic weekly farmers and general producers market in a Medieval town to sample the local produce and wine. We will stay in a typical French hotel (with swimming pool), nestling beside a lazy river in the little village of Cherveix Cubas, with nightly forays to a lovely selection of local restaurants to taste the delicious regional specialities. Our good friend Barbara Baker always co-leads these trips, as she is a local thereabouts! She is English and has a home in this wonderful region which we will explore together.
Please email us if you would like to get a group together. Guide price for 2007 was 1050 euros, all inclusive.

Hiking in The Pyrenees Mountains
of south west France. The Haute Pyrenees, to the SE of Biarritz and running a hiking tour in and around the mountains of the western massif of The French Pyrenees. In the autumn of 2004 and 2005, we ran two very successful tours here for the first time and we shall be running this tour again for groups who want to put a circle together.
With the help of our Portuguese friend Carlos and his French wife Celine - and as Celine is from this area and is also a mountain guide, you would have the best sort of introduction to the region. This area is composed of thickly forested lower slopes that rise up to high limestone peaks in the region of 7,000 - 10,000 feet high. In the valleys, there are lovely old medieval villages and further up, there are grassy slopes where shepherds graze their flocks. Even higher are bare rocky summits and stunning summits - where you can literally walk clear into Spain for your picnic - and see forever! Come and join us for a wonderful adventure - the mountains and valleys here are truly amazingly spectacular.

Price guide - approximately 1050 euros for a week.
